1.11 introduces a workaround in the form of actually probing the reported video length and trying a few times with different values if it fails
I considered mplayer's -forceidx as a (very) brute-force fallback. Let's hope the 1.11 solution is enough :)
Doctor Elephant also reported this problem with his SD camera's HD H264 MP4 files.
